about
Decent Man speaks to all men, and asks us to look deeper, to dig deeper, and suggests that being ‘decent’ is not good enough...we’ve all got to do better. The video features a few dear friends of mine, some incredible community leaders who I look up to, and all of whom are amazing men that I am so proud to know. The video illustrates the often mundane and unglorified aspects of life, and the day to day that is often unacknowledged, and often unseen. It is a vignette of good men, decent men.
I hope this song helps us ask tough questions. I know that to stand up for what is right will be difficult, it will be challenging to find the words, it will be hard to break the mold; but we must do it.
I wrote this song for both men, and women, and as a rallying cry to do better every day. It won’t be easy, but let’s try, we’ve got to do better.
I don't want to be a decent man
No I’m trying to do better than that
Just saying I don’t want no blood on my hands
Well you got to do better than that
Stand up for what’s right, even when the words are hard to find
And they’ll be harder and harder to find
Hey Hey
Trying to do better than that
Hey Hey
Got to do better than
Hey Hey
Trying to do better than that
Hey hey
Got to do better than that
I don’t want to be a complacent man
No we ain't’ got no time for all that
The water keeps rising and rising and rising
No we ain’t got no time for all that
I don’t want to be just another white privilege man
No we got to break down all that
Stand up for what's right, even when the words are hard to find
And they’ll be harder and hard to find
Hey Hey
Trying to do better than that
Hey Hey
Got to do better than
Hey Hey
Trying to do better than that
Hey hey
Got to do better than that
Hey Hey
Trying to do better than that
Hey Hey
Got to do better than
Hey Hey
Trying to do better than that
Hey hey
Got to do better than that
